Formulating a successful training plan hinges on a knowledge of your unique physiology, psychology, and background. By integrating this knowledge with a fundamental understanding of biology and exercise physiology, your coach will design a program that incorporates the proper amount of stimulus and rest. This approach will help ensure that you arrive at your targeted events in peak form.
Coach/Athlete Relationship
Open and frequent communication between athlete and coach is a critical component to the success of a training plan. Since unforeseen challenges are inevitable during the course of a season, reciprocal feedback can help a coach accommodate the athlete’s circumstances. By adjusting his/her program as needed, the coach can also help prevent illness, injury, or overtraining. Using both scientific knowledge and your feedback, your coach at Vitality Sport can equip you in progressing towards your goals.
Physiological Training
Each athlete’s goals and unique set of abilities determine what kind of adaptations can or must be acquired. Your coach at Vitality Sport will design a training program that helps you develop the ideal balance between aerobic and anaerobic conditioning. Your structured plan – built on the science of periodization – will help you stay on track and provide just the amount of stimulus and recovery that you need.
Psychological Training
Any change in the body’s ability to perform must be preceded and accompanied by a change in the mind. At Vitality Sport, we will focus on helping you master mental skills to enhance your athletic performance.
Data Analysis
While using heart rate data to gage effort and fitness is helpful in sports such as running and swimming, power meters in cycling offer the best means for quantifying performance. At Vitality Sport, we use this data to make informed decisions on how to move forward in helping you reach your goals. The power data we review is a function of many factors such as technique and physiology, each of which can be enhanced thru proper anatomical alignment and a customized training program.
Training Peaks
Here at Vitality Sport, we use an online training software known as Training Peaks. This powerful tool helps us plan and track your progress. We can then design and/or alter your training program based on data that is entered and processed by this system. For example, data may sometimes indicate that you need more recovery time or that you need more of a particular stimulus to stay on track in reaching your goals.
